Building the deck for Unit 1 from sustainable decking materials was a requirement. Creating an artful privacy screen from reclaimed timber offcuts was the icing on the cake. The process highlighted what can be achieved with a commitment to sustainable building practices.
Reusing materials is an important part of sustainable design and construction. By using reclaimed wood in unusual and interesting ways, David shows that reuse doesn't limit what can be done. In fact, reusing old timbers in creative ways makes the finished house more attractive.
We decided to dismantle the old house to recover the large amount of timber that could be re-used in the new homes. It was a big job but David finished in time for the Council to complete most of their drainage upgrade project before Christmas holidays.
The recycled timber delivery was an important event. Getting ready for the delivery meant clearing out the garage, creating another parking spot for the Golf and organising appropriate storage materials. After the timber was craned off the truck, it was all hands to the wheel so each plank could be safely stacked inside the garage.
